Job summary

Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH seeks a registered nurse for the Cardiac Step-down Unit (H4A). This role works 36 hours per week, nights 7P-7A, with every third weekend and holiday rotation.

Overview: 36 hrs per week Nights 7P-7A, every third weekend, holiday rotation Minimum base pay - $36.90 per hr In the Cardiac Step-down Unit (H4A), we treat patients of all ages. We specialize in treating both surgically and medically, those patients with congenital heart defects. We also provide medical cardiac management for children and adolescents with heart and vasculature related disease, as well as perform heart, lung, and heart/lung transplants. More about H4A: 24 beds (expansion forthcoming) Nurse to patient ratio is 1:3 We take care of all ages, however, on most days, approximately 75% of our population is under the age of six months. We are looking for detail-oriented nurses who can handle a fast-paced environment with a steep learning curve.

Job Description Summary

Assists patients to move rapidly, uneventfully, and as effectively as possible through their episode of care while maintaining quality and safety as a priority. Delegates, directs, oversees and provides developmentally appropriate patient care. Practices professional nursing and promotes patient advocacy in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and maintains a current Ohio Nursing License.

Essential Functions

Provides nursing care using a Family Centered approach. Assesses individualized patient needs. Communicates patient care needs and priorities to assigned Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Patient Care Assistants (PCAs), Unit Coordinators, and Allied Health personnel. Plans, implements, educates and evaluates care using Evidence-Based Practices. Utilizes Therapeutic Communication while monitoring the physical, psychological, and social needs of patients and families. Engages in the "workplace community" by staying aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, understanding Quality Improvement, and representing staff at relevant meetings and then reporting important information and updates back to staff. Documents according to organizational standards, policies, and procedures.

Education Requirement
