Description

The Staff Research Associate IV (SRA IV) serves as a lab technical manager overseeing transgenic and knockout mouse facilities, consisting of 40 lines and up to 3,600 mice. You will also serve as a technique expert in genetic, molecular, cellular, and behavioral neuroscience animal research projects. The SRA IV provides scientific and experimental support for new and ongoing projects. This particular area of research concerns cognitive disabilities, neurological, and psychiatric diseases. You will supervise staff personnel, academic apprentices, and student personnel. You will also oversee lab budgeting, ordering, and supply management.

Please note this is a full-time 2-month limited position and may convert to a career.

Salary Range: $73,046.78 - $117,544.05/Annually

Qualifications

Required:

• Master's degree in Biology required; Ph.D. preferred. A minimum of 6 years laboratory experience with molecular and transgenic/knockout mice facilities.
• Knowledge of UCLA animal use, handling, facilities regulations, and procedures. Certified by UCLA for rodent animal use and surgery.
• Technical expertise and working knowledge of biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology, including DNA, RNA purification, PCR, RT-PCR, Real-Time PCR, Western blotting, Northern blotting, immunohistochemistry, and cell culture.
• Excellent organizational and multi-tasking abilities. Ability to initiate, respond, complete, and follow up on requests and projects independently.
• Proficiency in Mac & PC for word processing, Excel, PowerPoint, electrophysiology data analysis. Ability to oversee and maintain laboratory computer network, liaise with IT for updates and backups.
• Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.
• Ability to maintain accurate records.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of budget management, including cost analysis of lab equipment.
• Record of scientific contributions such as peer-reviewed publications, patents, or presentations at major national meetings.

Preferred:

• Knowledge of purchasing policies and effective negotiating skills.
• Experience in training, leadership, and mentoring laboratory staff, including SRAs, lab assistants, and students.
