Job description

Description

The Staff Research Associate IV (SRA IV) serves as a lab technical manager overseeing transgenic and knockout mouse facilities, consisting of 40 lines and up to 3,600 mice. You will also serve as a technique expert in genetic, molecular, cellular, and behavioral neuroscience animal research projects. The SRA IV provides scientific and experimental support for new and ongoing projects. This research focuses on cognitive disabilities, neurological, and psychiatric diseases. You will supervise staff personnel, academic apprentices, and students. Additionally, you will oversee lab budgeting, ordering, and supply management.

Please note this is a full-time 2-month limited position and may convert to a career position.

Salary Range: $73,046.78 - $117,544.05 annually

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master's degree in Biology required; Ph.D. preferred. A minimum of 6 years of laboratory experience with molecular, transgenic, and knockout mice facilities.
  • Knowledge of UCLA animal use, handling, and facilities regulations and procedures. Certified by UCLA in rodent animal use and surgery.
  • Technical expertise and working knowledge of biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology, including DNA, RNA purification, PCR, RT-PCR, Real-Time PCR, Western blotting, Northern blotting, immunohistochemistry, and cell culture.
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking abilities. Ability to initiate, respond, complete, and follow up on requests and projects independently.
  • Proficiency in Mac & PC platforms using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis software. Ability to oversee and maintain laboratory computer networks and communicate with IT support for updates and backups.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of budget management and cost analysis of lab equipment.
  • Track record of scientific contributions, including peer-reviewed publications, patents, or presentations at major national meetings.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of purchasing policies and effective negotiation skills.
  • Experience in training and leadership, including mentoring laboratory staff, students, and assistants.
