Job summary

Amgen is seeking a Staff Relations Manager to provide expert employee relations guidance to managers and staff across manufacturing sites. The role requires conducting investigations, advising on performance, and ensuring compliant ER practices.

You will work hybrid, on-site at facilities in Rhode Island, Cambridge, North Carolina or Ohio, with a regular on-site presence of at least 3 days per week. A strong HR background and 4+ years of staff relations experience are essential.

Staff Relations Manager
What you will do

In this vital role you will be responsible for providing expert employee relations (ER) guidance and support to managers and staff in Amgen’s Operations function. This position is located on site at one of Amgen’s manufacturing sites in Rhode Island, Cambridge, North Carolina and/or Ohio. The successful candidate is expected to work a hybrid schedule, which includes a regular on‑site presence a minimum of 3 days per week. Staff Relations is a specialized Human Resources function that partners closely with regional HR Leaders, Business Managers, Compliance, Legal, other HR Centers of Excellence and team members to protect Amgen values, investigate potential violations of HR policies, provide practical advice and guidance on coaching staff and managers, and advise on performance and behaviors management, discipline, involuntary terminations, and workplace accommodations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide practical and legally appropriate employee relations guidance on performance management, disciplinary action, and workplace conflicts to HR partners and business leaders.
  • Participate in termination discussions and corrective actions with staff and leaders as needed.
  • Conduct and document thorough, impartial, and timely HR investigations, maintaining confidentiality and objectivity.
  • Determine findings of facts and any violations of Amgen policies and prepare clear, concise investigation summaries and supporting documentation to support these findings.
  • Partner with the occupational health, benefits, staff and managers to analyze and respond to reasonable accommodation requests, leaves of absence, and return to work following them.
  • Partner with local HR Business Partners and the broader Staff Relations team to ensure nuanced and compliant ER practices.
  • Track and update cases in the company’s case management system.
  • Assist the Operations Staff Relations Lead in implementing process improvements, training, and ER best practices.
  • Collaborate with Compliance, Legal, and Learning & Development teams to deliver training on HR policies, investigations, and professional workplace behaviors.

Basic Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree OR Master’s degree and 2 years of Staff Relations experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of Staff Relations experience OR Associate’s degree and 8 years of Staff Relations experience OR High School diploma/GED and 10 years of Staff Relations experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to Work on site at one of Amgen’s manufacturing facilities in Rhode Island, Cambridge, North Carolina and/or Ohio.
  • Strong Human Resources background with 4+ years of experience in Employee Relations Experience advising on performance management, discipline, and involuntary terminations of employment.
  • Knowledge and experience of employment laws and ER practices.
  • Experience conducting internal HR investigations.
  • Ability to learn and fairly apply company policy, investigation procedures, and regulatory guidelines within scope of duties.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, and professionalism in handling complex and confidential matters.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, Teams, Workday, and ER case management systems.
  • Flexible working hours due to needs of manufacturing shifts.

Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
