Zusammenfassung

Merlin Labs, Inc. is seeking a hands-on systems software engineer for the Virtual Test Environments team in our Boston lab.

You will own software connecting aircraft avionics, hardware-in-the-loop environments, simulation models, and flight-test data systems to enable engineers to exercise systems before flight. The role requires developing modern C++ on embedded Linux, building hardware abstraction layers, and implementing asynchronous Rust services for telemetry.

Qualifikationen

• Strong proficiency in modern C++ and maintainable systems software design.
• Experience timing-sensitive software on Linux with fixed-period execution.
• Experience integrating avionics interfaces like ARINC 429.
• Experience developing binary serializers and parsers with attention to bytes, framing, and validation.
• Experience with UDP/TCP networking and asynchronous data pipelines.
• Experience with cross-compilation and Yocto for ARM Linux targets.
• Proficiency in Python for tooling and automation.
• Ability to own end-to-end systems and work onsite in Boston.

Aufgaben

• Own the architecture, development, and sustainment of real-time I/O software and telemetry infrastructure.
• Develop modern C++ software on embedded Linux targets to interface with avionics hardware and manage periodic execution.
• Develop and maintain hardware abstraction layers using UEI PowerDNA equipment and vendor SDKs.
• Integrate ARINC 429, CAN, serial, and discrete I/O using interface documents; validate encoding, mapping, rates, and error handling.
• Develop and maintain asynchronous Rust services that ingest telemetry sources and stream data to displays and recording systems.
• Implement robust binary protocols and network interfaces using UDP, TCP, and ZeroMQ with attention to loss, ordering, buffering, and liveness.
• Build capabilities for timestamp alignment, session recording, data retrieval, and simulation replay.
• Maintain cross-compilation, packaging, and deployment workflows for ARM Linux targets and Linux hosts (Yocto, CMake, Debian, systemd, Docker).
• Establish automated verification through unit tests, hardware integration tests, fuzzing, and Python-based tests.
• Partner with avionics and flight-test engineers to reproduce integration conditions in the lab.
