Abbott in Plymouth, MN is seeking a Staff R&D Engineer to lead advanced bench testing for electrophysiology therapies. You will drive strategies, develop models, and collaborate across R&D, Clinical, and Regulatory teams to accelerate product development and data-informed decisions.

You will mentor engineers, define lab needs, and ensure FDA/ISO compliance while optimizing testing efficiency and cost. Strong communication and cross-functional influence are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biomedical, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of medical device product development, testing, or engineering experience.
• Strong experimental design, data-driven decision-making abilities.
• Experience with laboratory, bench or preclinical testing methodologies.
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
• Ability to influence stakeholders across organizations.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategy, development, and implementation of advanced bench testing for electrophysiology therapies.
• Establish roadmaps to increase bench data use for design and decisions.
• Develop innovative test methods and experimental platforms replicating clinical conditions.
• Collaborate with R&D, Clinical, Systems Eng, Regulatory, Quality, and Product teams.
• Serve as subject matter expert for bench testing methodologies and study design.
• Lead investigations and data-driven analyses to support tech development and risk reduction.
• Define requirements for new lab equipment and testing infrastructure.
• Mentor engineers in experimental design and data analysis.
• Present technical recommendations to leadership and project teams.
• Support verification/validation strategies and regulatory documentation.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Ensure FDA/ISO compliance and adherence to quality systems.
