Job summary

Crayola in Easton, PA seeks a Staff Project Engineer to lead global manufacturing projects, applying Lean and Six Sigma to improve margins, lead times and automation. You will manage technical resources, support training and talent development across engineering teams, and ensure smooth NPI through Design for Manufacturing practices.

The role requires a BS in engineering, 10+ years in high-volume manufacturing, 5+ years of project management, and Green Belt Six Sigma (Black Belt preferred).

Qualifications

  • BS in engineering required.
  • Ten+ years of related project engineering in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Five+ years of project management experience.
  • Green Belt Six Sigma required; Black Belt preferred.
  • Ability to develop and optimize product designs for ease of manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software and manufacturing automation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead exploration and development of new manufacturing processes and equipment opportunities.
  • Model and prototype new manufacturing technology from concept to handoff.
  • Apply Lean and Six Sigma to deliver margins, lead times and inventory improvements.
  • Ensure smooth transition of new products into Operations with proper planning and tooling selection.
  • Manage capital project budgets, timelines and stakeholder communications.
  • Provide technical leadership to resolve equipment issues and reduce downtime.

Staff Project Engineer, Easton, PA.
GENERAL SUMMARY

Leadership role in researching, identifying, managing and implementing global engineering projects that deliver statistically significant improvements through application of novel technology, capacity utilization, capability acquisition, and maintenance improvement. Critical to ensuring successful global new product introductions through application of sound Engineering Design for Manufacturing in conjunction with process planning & machine tool selection. Expected to lead management of technical resources as required and support training, development and talent management of company's technical resources.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads exploration and development of new manufacturing processes and equipment opportunities in support of global strategic Operations' objectives.
  • Leads the rapid modeling and prototyping of new manufacturing technology as assigned from idea definition to concept handoff or implementation.
  • Applies Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and statistical analysis to identify and manage projects from inception through implementation delivering improved margins, shorter lead times and reduced inventory.
  • Enable seamless transition of new products into Operations by application of Product Design, streamlined manufacturing principles, selection of best manufacturing supply chains, machine tool design & selection.
  • Responsible for capital project budget control, management communication and adherence to project timelines.
  • Provide technical leadership in the resolution of the equipment problems, elimination of waste, and equipment downtime with the objective of minimizing unit cost.
  • Responsible for design, testing, installation, startup, management communication, development and documentation of state-of-the-art automation equipment and technologies.
  • Produces and is accountable for proper and accurate engineering work and record keeping including the work of technicians and/or other engineers.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.
  • A minimum of ten years of related project engineering experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • A minimum of five years of project management experience.
  • Green Belt Six Sigma certification is required, Black Belt preferred.
  • Ability to develop and optimize product designs for ease of manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of computer aided design software.
  • Outstanding communication, interaction and problem-solving skills. Broad based knowledge in areas of Lean and continuous improvement, automation, product and package development in a global manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to lead and influence key leaders and others.
  • Capable of independent and self-directed work to support strategic long term Operations' vision.
  • Must be a team player with strong belief in a partnership organization, the benefit of employee involvement in decision-making, and dedicated to high performance and servicing the customer.
  • Maintains state of the art awareness of new technologies for manufacturing through vendor contacts, trade shows, professional journals, etc.
  • Communicates effectively between Marketing, Operations Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality and R&D departments, as well as outside vendors to assure proper specifications and timeliness of projects.
