Job summary

Alpaca is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Platform team to own the technical direction of our streaming platform. You will manage Redpanda-based event backend, authentication, developer experience, and AI-native tooling, while collaborating across teams to shape the two-to-three-year platform roadmap.

You’ll write Go, helm charts, and work across logs, metrics, and deployments. This role emphasizes leadership and architectural influence in a fast-paced fintech environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional engineering experience, including running systems at real scale.
• Strong Go proficiency or deep experience in a strongly-typed language.
• Architected event streaming systems with production depth in Kafka or Redpanda.
• Experience delivering real-time data to clients and handling fan-out, backpressure.
• Led technical direction across teams and authored RFCs.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture of the event streaming platform end-to-end.
• Lead the shift from batch to event-driven across systems.
• Design user-facing streaming at scale and address backpressure and delivery guarantees.
• Set standards for event-driven design including schema evolution and deprecation.
• Shape AuthN/AuthZ direction and token lifecycle on long-lived connections.
• Collaborate with SRE on chaos testing and with QA on pre-production gates.
• Mentor engineers and lead through design reviews and delegation.
• Join on-call rotation and act as technical lead during incidents.
