Job summary

Judi Health seeks a Staff Engineer in Architecture to lead observability and performance optimization across PostgreSQL and related systems. You will influence database architecture, drive performance improvements, and own benchmarking and incident response for high-load, correctness-critical workloads.

Responsibilities include diagnosing production issues, guiding topology changes, and mentoring engineers in PostgreSQL internals and query analysis.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of production engineering experience with PostgreSQL at scale.
• Deep fluency in PostgreSQL internals (MVCC, autovacuum, query planning, locking).
• Experience diagnosing and remediating production database performance in regulated environments.
• Experience building CI-integrated performance gates and observability pipelines.
• Experience evaluating cluster topology changes and tuning for high-concurrency workloads.
• Influence-based impact with documentation that lasts over time.
• Strong written and verbal communication for standards and guidance.
• Comfort with ambiguity and ownership of production problems from first principles.
• Experience supporting 24/7 on-call rotations.

Responsibilities

• Own observability infrastructure powering engineering teams.
• Diagnose performance problems using query plans and cluster configuration insights.
• Evaluate and implement cluster topology changes and asynchronous I/O patterns.
• Build benchmarking and regression-detection infrastructure for CI.
• Define performance contracts for the database layer and SLAs.
• Lead reviews of queries and schemas; own incident response for performance issues.
• Mentor senior engineers in PostgreSQL internals and query analysis.
• Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation for production support.
