Job summary

Zoro.com is seeking a Staff Platform Software Engineer in its Enterprise Platform Engineering group for AMP in Chicago. You will provide strategic technical leadership, shape architectural direction, and mentor engineers across the organization to improve developer productivity, reliability, and scalability.

You will drive foundational platform services and cross-team initiatives, advocate for engineering standards, and help elevate the tech stack with AI-assisted tooling and robust operational

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of professional software development experience.
• Expert proficiency in Python, Java, or TypeScript.
• Experience designing and operating distributed cloud-native systems using IaC (Terraform preferred).
• Strong CI/CD, observability, and container orchestration experience (Kubernetes, Cloud Run).
• Excellent strategic communication with ability to articulate complex tech decisions.
• Experience safely integrating AI-assisted development tools with measurable impact.

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and maintain foundational platform services.
• Drive cross-functional technical leadership and promote engineering best practices.
• Mentor engineers and lead code reviews and technical consultations.
• Define strategic technical initiatives and transform problems into high-impact projects.
• Collaborate across multiple teams to standardize tooling and patterns.
• Lead cross-functional design reviews and identify systemic risks and bottlenecks.
• Champion learning and adoption of new technologies and industry trends.
• Act as a trusted advisor to technology leadership for executive decisions.
• Coordinate rapid responses to production incidents and improve operational resilience.
• Evaluate and introduce AI-assisted engineering practices for productivity and quality.
