Job summary

Zipline is seeking a Staff Platform Software Engineer in South San Francisco to build scalable, secure interfaces that connect AI-enabled applications with Zipline’s production systems. You’ll collaborate with Forward Deployed AI Engineers, application teams, and infrastructure partners to define platforms, standards, and guardrails while shipping quickly and safely.

The role focuses on designing developer-facing APIs, service integrations, and platform governance to support Zipline’s autonomous

Qualifications

8+ years of software engineering experience at scale.
Experience designing developer-facing APIs and distributed systems.
Experience building cloud services and event-driven architectures.
Comfort using AI-assisted development tools in engineering practice.

Responsibilities

Define and build the paved road for connecting AI-enabled apps to production systems.
Design and implement reusable APIs, gateways, middleware, and integration patterns.
Partner with Forward Deployed AI Engineers on high-impact projects and move prototypes into supported services.
Own technical decisions for integrations that access protected production boundaries.
Define and operate platform safeguards including authentication, rate limiting, observability, and safe failure modes.
Establish technical standards and governance for AI-enabled tool access to production systems.
Create reference implementations, documentation, and developer experiences.
Ensure ownership and operational expectations across platform components.
