Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Access & Authorization team within the Platform group. You will shape secure authentication and authorization capabilities used across Coinbase products and partner integrations.

Responsibilities include designing and operating scalable services in Go, implementing tokens, 2FA, and edge authorization while balancing security, UX, and regulatory needs. Collaboration across product, security, and infra is essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend software engineering experience with Go or a comparable systems-oriented language.
• Experience designing secure APIs and managing authentication/authorization, tokens, and sessions (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWTs).

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design, implementation, and operation of authentication, OAuth, sessions, tokens, 2FA, account recovery, and edge authorization.
• Build secure, low-latency Go and gRPC services used across Coinbase web, mobile, API, and partner experiences with strong observability and SLOs.
• Lead technical designs for initiatives such as signed tokens, passkeys, biometric recovery, device-aware authentication, and mobile OAuth.
• Partner with product, security, fraud, and infra teams to balance conversion, protection, regulation, and engineering constraints.
• Simplify integration patterns and build self-service tooling for safe scale of access & authorization capabilities.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, pairing, code reviews, and on-call participation.
