Job summary

Optimal Balance Pharmacy is a rapidly growing 503A compounding pharmacy in the Houston area seeking a detail-oriented Staff Pharmacist. You will ensure patient safety, accuracy, and quality while collaborating with technicians, clinicians, and leadership.

Qualifications

  • PharmD or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy

Responsibilities

  • Final Prescription Review: verify compounded prescriptions for accuracy, dosing, labeling, patient information, and required documentation.
  • Clinical Judgment: identify medication, dosing, formulation, allergy, and interaction concerns and communicate with prescribers when necessary.
  • Prevent Errors: catch discrepancies before medications reach patients.
  • Documentation: maintain accurate and complete pharmacist reviews and interventions.
  • Keep Prescriptions Moving: balance efficiency with uncompromising accuracy and patient safety.
  • Partner With Technicians: work alongside pharmacy technicians to resolve issues and maintain efficient workflow.
  • Follow the Standard: work in accordance with applicable pharmacy laws, USP standards, and OBP SOPs.
  • Technology-Driven Pharmacy: work with modern pharmacy technology, automation, and digital workflows.

Position overview

We're looking for a detail-oriented, clinically minded Staff Pharmacist who puts patient safety, accuracy, and quality first.

You’ll work closely with pharmacy technicians, clinicians, and leadership while helping OBP safely and efficiently serve a rapidly growing patient population.

What you'll do
  • Final Prescription Review — Verify compounded prescriptions for accuracy, dosing, labeling, patient information, and required documentation.
  • Clinical Judgment — Identify medication, dosing, formulation, allergy, and interaction concerns and communicate with prescribers when necessary.

High-volume pharmacy operations
  • Keep Prescriptions Moving — Balance efficiency with uncompromising accuracy and patient safety.
  • Partner With Technicians — Work alongside pharmacy technicians to resolve issues and maintain efficient workflow.
  • Take Ownership — Identify bottlenecks and help solve problems.
  • Improve the Process — Help reduce errors, unnecessary steps, and rework.
  • Support the Team — Cross-train and collaborate across pharmacy operations.
Compliance & quality
  • Follow the Standard Every Time — Work in accordance with applicable pharmacy laws, USP standards, and OBP SOPs.
  • Controlled Substances — Maintain accuracy and accountability when reviewing and dispensing controlled medications.
  • Speak Up — Identify and elevate potential quality or compliance concerns.

Experience & qualifications
Required
  • PharmD or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy
  • Strong commitment to patient safety, accuracy, quality, and compliance
Preferred — not required
  • 1–3+ years of pharmacist experience
  • Sterile and/or non-sterile compounding experience
  • High-volume pharmacy experience
  • Familiarity with USP <797> and USP <800>
  • LifeFile pharmacy software experience
