Position Summary

The Staff Pharmacist serves as the final clinical authority responsible for verifying, releasing, and safeguarding compounded medications that impact thousands of patients daily. Operating within the largest 503A and 503B compounding pharmacy in the world, this role combines clinical judgment, operational discipline, and regulatory precision to ensure every prescription meets uncompromising safety and compliance standards. The pharmacist drives verification excellence, mentors technicians, and removes workflow barriers while maintaining throughput in a high-growth, high-volume environment. Success requires decisive thinking, learning agility, and the willingness to leverage AI-enabled verification tools, automation systems, and data insights as force multipliers that elevate accuracy, productivity, and patient safety at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Prescription Verification: Perform final verification of compounded prescriptions, ensuring dosing accuracy, labeling precision, allergy review, interaction screening, and regulatory documentation before medication release.
  • Clinical Interventions: Evaluate prescriptions for therapeutic appropriateness, identify dosing or formulation risks, communicate with prescribers for clarification, and document interventions clearly.
  • Safety Oversight: Maintain uncompromising patient safety standards by identifying discrepancies, preventing dispensing errors, and enforcing clinical safeguards throughout verification processes.
  • Queue Management: Monitor dispensing queues continuously, prioritize urgent prescriptions, maintain turnaround expectations, and balance verification speed with uncompromising clinical accuracy under pressure.
  • Technician Collaboration: Work closely with pharmacy technicians during filling and packaging workflows, reinforce quality standards, correct deviations immediately, and strengthen team accountability.
  • Process Improvement: Identify workflow inefficiencies, documentation gaps, and preventable rework patterns, recommending practical operational improvements that increase throughput and maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Compliance Enforcement: Apply state pharmacy regulations, USP standards, and internal SOPs consistently while maintaining complete, audit-ready documentation across dispensing workflows.
  • Controlled Oversight: Ensure controlled substance dispensing accuracy through meticulous verification, inventory awareness, and documentation practices aligned with federal and state requirements.
  • Audit Readiness: Maintain inspection-ready practices, proactively identifying compliance risks and correcting procedural gaps before they escalate into regulatory issues.
  • AI Utilization: Leverage AI-assisted verification tools and clinical decision support systems to strengthen accuracy, accelerate verification, and reduce cognitive workload.
  • Data Monitoring: Analyze operational dashboards and error reports to detect safety trends, improve verification quality, and inform targeted operational adjustments.
  • System Optimization: Champion pharmacy technology adoption, including barcode systems, automation platforms, and digital workflow improvements that modernize dispensing operations.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in prescription verification, clinical decision-making, medication safety practices, and regulatory compliance within high-volume pharmacy operations that require disciplined documentation and consistent quality standards.
  • Strong operational awareness with the ability to manage dispensing queues, prioritize workload under pressure, maintain accuracy, and guide technicians through structured workflows in fast‑paced environments.
  • Proficiency using pharmacy management systems, barcode verification tools, automation platforms, and emerging AI-driven clinical decision support technologies to improve verification accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret performance dashboards, error trends, and workflow metrics to identify operational improvements that strengthen patient safety and throughput.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in pharmacy operations, compounding, or clinical practice preferred.
  • Experience in 503A/503B compounding, sterile or non‑sterile environments, or regulated healthcare settings preferred.
  • Strong understanding of pharmacy regulations, quality standards, and patient safety practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in high-volume, fast-paced environments with strong attention to detail and accountability.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Active pharmacist license in good standing required (state-specific as applicable).
Key Competencies
