Job description

At CVS Health, we’re building a world of health around every consumer and surrounding ourselves with dedicated colleagues who are passionate about transforming health care.

As the nation’s leading health solutions company, we reach millions of Americans through our local presence, digital channels, and more than 300,000 purpose-driven colleagues – caring for people where, when, and how they choose in a way that is uniquely more connected, more convenient, and more compassionate. And we do it all with heart, each and every day.

At CVS Health, we are focused on transforming health care for our customers and making our company a great place to work. We help people navigate the health care system—and their personal health care—by improving access, lowering costs, and being a trusted partner for every meaningful moment of health. Within our Retail locations, we bring this promise to life with heart every day. Our Staff Pharmacists play a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence in their pharmacy by acting as a role model, demonstrating our Heart At Work behaviors, and setting the bar for the pharmacy team.

As a Staff Pharmacist, you play a critical role at the forefront of delivering our purpose, modeling our values, and demonstrating genuine, authentic care for our patients. In addition to supporting the Pharmacy Manager in leading and directing the pharmacy team, you are accountable for supporting the management, oversight, and operation of all aspects within your pharmacy.

The Staff Pharmacist’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Living our purpose of “Bringing our Heart to Every Moment of Your Health” by helping to manage and improve patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices
  • Taking direction from the Pharmacy Manager and overseeing the pharmacy as their proxy during bench shifts without overlap, including strengthening pharmacy performance measures through effective coaching and consistent follow-up of pharmacy team members and providing feedback about pharmacy team performance to the Pharmacy Manager as needed
  • Assuming Pharmacy Manager’s day-to-day duties when serving as the only or the primary pharmacist-on-duty
  • Supporting safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following—and directing the pharmacy team to follow—WeCARE workflow procedures and utilizing the safety guardrails at every workstation
  • Contributing to positive patient experiences by Helping with Heart and coaching the pharmacy team to do the same: demonstrating compassionate care, collaborating with the patient’s total healthcare team, and proactively resolving insurance and/or medication issues
  • Proactively offering and delivering immunizations to keep patients healthy; engaging and supporting Pharmacy Technicians to learn to immunize
  • Supporting the effective management of pharmacy inventory by following—all inventory best practices, with a focus on cold chain products, controlled substances, and vaccine inventory
  • Partnering with the Pharmacy Manager to ensure pharmacy operations are compliant with state Board of Pharmacy regulations; escalating issues or concerns as needed
  • Remaining flexible for scheduling and business needs; supporting the Pharmacy Manager by writing the pharmacy schedule if required
  • Maintaining relevant clinical and technical skills; actively seeking opportunities to expand knowledge
  • Supporting access to care through pharmacist-delivered clinical services (e.g., testing and prescribing services)
  • Understanding and complying with all relevant laws, regulations, standards, and policies to support patient safety and a safe, inclusive workplace

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Prescription Fulfillment and Inventory Management - Estimated 40%

  • Support safe, accurate, and efficient prescription fulfillment following workflow procedures
  • Execute quality assurance responsibilities including verification, DUR, and safety reporting
  • Support other workstations to assist patients and team members as needed
  • Manage inventory, including cold chain, controlled substances, and vaccine stock, following all regulations
  • Ensure compliance with pharmacy regulations and support clinical services

2. Customer Service, Patient Care, and Immunizations - Estimated 35%

  • Engage with patients at pick-up and drive-thru, providing counseling and immunizations
  • Promote digital and loyalty offerings
  • Coordinate with prescribers and insurance to resolve barriers
  • Answer patient calls promptly and review feedback
  • Deliver counseling and immunizations, supervising Tech Immunizers as needed

3. Pharmacy Team Leadership and Management - Estimated 25%

  • Supervise pharmacy operations and team when serving as primary pharmacist-on-duty
  • Lead and coordinate team tasks and workflow
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and performance management
  • Support training and development of pharmacy staff
  • Contribute to a positive, safe, and inclusive team culture

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Doctorate preferred

Licenses:

  • Active Pharmacist License in the state where the store is located

Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years preferred; 3-5 years preferred

Qualifications:

  • Active Pharmacist License, NPI, no DEA exclusions, and regular attendance
  • Strong communication, customer service, and physical ability to perform job tasks
