Position Summary
Performs the basic pharmacist procedures required by the assigned area, consistent with scientific principles and Baptist Health policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Demonstrates understanding of safety, emergency, and risk management procedures.
- Understands the hospital mission, personnel policies, philosophy, goals, and objectives of Pharmacy and Orlando Health.
- Familiar with the general duties of the Pharmacy department.
- Can identify and utilize resource persons and departments for customer service and patient care.
- Operates pharmacy equipment according to instructions, safety regulations, and policies.
- Dispenses medications and IV fluids using the medication dispensing system, following scientific principles and Orlando Health policies.
- Documents appropriately in forms and systems, adhering to standards of care and quality improvement programs.
- Understands various computer systems used in the department and at Orlando Health.
- Develops competency in all aspects of health-system pharmacy practice, including pharmacotherapy, patient care, distributive services, drug information, and practice management.
- Plans, organizes, executes, and monitors pharmaceutical care plans.
- Performs pharmacotherapy, pharmacokinetics consultations, and other clinical responsibilities as applicable, e.g., TPN initiation and monitoring.
- Evaluates and addresses alerts such as IV to PO conversions, renal dosing protocols, etc.
- Reports and investigates adverse drug reactions and medication errors, documenting appropriately.
- Participates in multidisciplinary rounds if applicable.
- Maintains regular, punctual attendance per Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and other standards.
- Ensures compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Establishes open communication with patients, visitors, families, physicians, and team members, ensuring each feels valued.
- Provides age-appropriate care, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles and the ability to assess patient data to meet age-specific needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Training: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD required.
Licensure/Certification: Licensed by the Alabama Board of Pharmacy, renewed every two years.
