Job summary

Central Power Systems & Services in Liberty, MO seeks a detail-oriented Staff or Senior Accountant to join our Accounting team. The role focuses on internal billing and multi-state sales tax compliance, serving as a backup to the sales tax accountant and supporting month-end close.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of accounting experience, strong Excel skills, GAAP knowledge, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant accounting experience in mid- to large-sized companies.
• Strong multi-state sales and use tax compliance experience.
• Proficiency in internal billing or intercompany billing processes.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.
• Proficient with Excel; excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Sales Tax & Compliance (Backup): Prepare and file multi-state sales and use tax returns, ensuring compliance.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changing sales tax laws across jurisdictions.
• Assist with sales tax audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities.
• Reconcile sales tax general ledger accounts and ensure accuracy in tax accruals.
• Internal Billing: Review and post internal repair orders; verify billing data for accuracy.
• Prepare and analyze billing reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Assist in development and implementation of billing policies and procedures; monthly audits of retail invoices.
• General Accounting: Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries and reconciliations; support external audits.

This role will be instrumental in ensuring efficient billing processes across various departments and serve as a backup to our sales tax accountant.
