Central Power Systems & Services in Liberty, MO is seeking a Staff or Senior Accountant to support our Accounting team with a focus on sales tax compliance, internal billing, and general accounting functions.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in multi-state sales tax, accurate billing, GAAP knowledge, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, with overtime at month-end.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of relevant accounting experience in a mid- to large-sized company.
• Strong experience in multi-state sales and use tax compliance.
• Proficiency in internal billing or intercompany billing processes.
• Solid understanding of GAAP.
• Proficient with Excel.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities; overtime at month end.

Responsibilities

• Sales Tax & Compliance (Backup): Prepare and file multi-state sales and use tax returns, ensuring full compliance with state and local regulations.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changing sales tax laws and regulations across jurisdictions.
• Assist with sales tax audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities.
• Reconcile sales tax general ledger accounts and ensure accuracy in tax accruals.
• Internal Billing: Review and post internal repair orders.
• Review and verify billing data for accuracy and completeness.
• Resolve billing discrepancies and disputes by working closely with internal teams.
• Prepare and analyze billing reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Assist in the development and implementation of billing policies and procedures.
• Perform monthly audit of retail invoices posted by branches.
• General Accounting: Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Support external audit requests and prepare documentation as needed.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and corporate procedures.
• Contribute to process improvements, automation, and efficiency initiatives within the accounting team.

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant or Senior Accountant to join our Accounting team. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in sales tax compliance, internal billing and general accounting functions. This role will be instrumental in ensuring efficient billing processes across various departments and serve as a backup to our sales tax accountant. Prior experience in a mid- to large-sized corporate environment is highly preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES
