Job description

Regional Accountant

Location: Northwest Houston, TX — In Office Level: Staff or Senior, depending on experience

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a hands-on Regional Accountant to manage full-cycle accounting responsibilities for multiple operating companies. This role is ideal for an accountant who enjoys owning the books, working through the details, and partnering directly with operations to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. You will be responsible for the month-end close and ongoing accounting activities for a portfolio of assigned companies, including journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statement review, variance analysis, and support for budgeting, forecasting, and audits. This position can be structured at either the Staff Accountant or Senior Accountant level, depending on experience.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Full-Cycle Accounting & Financial Close
  • Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process for assigned companies.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, deferrals, reclasses, and other adjusting entries.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger activity and ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Review financial results for completeness and accuracy prior to finalizing the close.
Reconciliations & Financial Analysis
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and research and resolve discrepancies.
  • Review income statements and balance sheets for unusual activity, trends, and potential errors.
  • Investigate variances and work with appropriate teams to identify and correct root causes.
  • Help ensure accounting records remain accurate, organized, and audit-ready.
Multi-Company Accounting
  • Serve as the primary accounting contact for a portfolio of assigned operating companies.
  • Coordinate with local and regional teams to obtain accounting information and resolve outstanding items.
  • Manage multiple company closes and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the operations and financial drivers of the companies you support.
Reporting, Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Prepare and distribute recurring financial reports.
  • Provide variance analysis and explanations of significant financial results.
  • Support management discussion and analysis by helping explain the key drivers behind monthly performance.
  • Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, and other financial planning activities in partnership with FP&A and operations.
Controls, Audit & Process Improvement
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and follow established internal controls.
  • Support internal and external audit requests.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and close efficiency.
  • Assist with the development and standardization of accounting procedures across multiple companies.
  • Support accounting system and reporting enhancements as the organization continues to grow.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • Detail-oriented and able to catch and resolve discrepancies independently.
  • Comfortable taking responsibility for the accuracy of their assigned financials.
  • Organized and able to manage multiple companies and close schedules simultaneously.
  • Analytical and interested in understanding the story behind the numbers.
  • Comfortable communicating directly with operations and other non-accounting stakeholders.
  • Able to work independently while also collaborating with a broader accounting and finance team.
  • Interested in improving processes rather than simply following existing procedures.
  • Motivated by an opportunity to grow their responsibilities as the organization expands.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Approximately 2–6+ years of progressive accounting experience, with level determined based on experience.
  • Experience with full-cycle accounting and month-end close required OR equivalent experience in public accounting.
  • Experience managing accounting responsibilities for multiple companies, entities, locations, or business units strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP, general ledger accounting, financial statements, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Sage Intacct experience is a plus but not required.
  • CPA or CPA candidacy is a plus but not required.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with accounting and operational stakeholders.
WHY THIS ROLE

This is an opportunity for an accountant who wants more ownership than a traditional transactional accounting position. You will have responsibility for the financials of multiple operating companies and exposure to close, reporting, analysis, budgeting, operations, and process improvement. For someone who performs well, there is room to take on increasingly complex companies and broader responsibilities as the organization continues to grow.
