Position Summary

The Aultman Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional nurse that provides direct, primary nursing care to patients/residents. The RN delegates and coordinates patient care, based upon a documented assessment of the patient’s/resident’s needs. The RN supervises the care provided by individuals such as licensed practical nurses, patient care technicians/state tested nursing assistants/nurse aides, medical assistants, and etc., if applicable.

Department Summary

The Aultman Orrville Obstetrics Department is a level I maternity center licensed by the State of Ohio. The AOH OB Department provides care to well newborns and patients across the maternity continuum, including emergency, antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum care. The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct patient care and work cooperatively within the interdisciplinary health care team in maintaining standards of nursing care within the framework of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act for RN’s.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
  • Current, active licensure as a Registered Nurse through the Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required.
  • Certification preferred for RNs meeting applicable certification eligibility requirements.
Department Qualifications
  • Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required.
  • The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is completed and maintained as part of orientation and is instructed internally by the Birth Center and supported by the Education and Development Department.
  • Maintain STABLE certification.
  • Complete required orientation for position.

  • Administers medications safely according to the five rights of medication administration and assesses patient response to treatments.
  • Determines a plan of care according to each patient’s individual need and incorporates family members into the plan of care. Revises the plan of care according to the patient’s response.
  • Formulates an education plan based on identified learning needs of the patient/family and evaluates the effectiveness of learning.
  • Supervision of care delivered by Patient Care Technicians.
  • Utilizes electronic medical record and other computerized programs for documentation of care and completion of daily tasks.
  • Treats patient/family with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychological, social, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of the patient/family.
  • Complies with organizational policies, procedures, and code of conduct.
  • Demonstrates, creates, and fosters a work environment that is consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the Aultman Health Foundation and provides care that consistently complies with the Aultman Corporate Service Standards and high reliability culture.
  • Manages time wisely and seeks assignments when duties are completed.

Working Conditions
  • Meal and break times are coordinated with other staff members to maintain adequate coverage.
  • Shifts are scheduled or changed due to the staffing needs of the unit/department based upon volume and acuity.
  • Work weekends and holidays as assigned or as applicable based on department needs.
Department Working Conditions
  • 12 hour shifts; days, nights; weekends and holidays; overtime based on a 40 hour work week.
  • On-call based on unit specific need.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day.

All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for spills or splashes of, or mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
