Job summary

University Health in San Antonio, TX is seeking registered nurses to join the float pool across medical/surgical, ICU and Pediatric units. Full-time, part-time with benefits or PRN positions are available in a variety of settings.

Float pool RNs provide nursing care in diagnostic radiology and related procedures, mentor staff, and work mostly 10-hour shifts with some 8- and 12-hour days, totaling 80 hours every two weeks.

Qualifications

• Active Texas RN license is required.
• ACLS and BLS required; PALS within 6 months of hire.
• BSN preferred; minimum of one year experience in CCU or ER.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic leadership for assigned patients and mentors staff.
• Nurses care for inpatients and outpatients across radiology services and related procedures.

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides basic leadership skills for assigned patients, collaborates with other departments and utilizes critical thinking process to proactively implement nursing plan of care. The radiology nurse provides nursing care to inpatients and outpatients of all ages in diagnostic radiology, special procedures, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, computerized tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. Serves as mentor to the staff nurse and ancillary personnel; receives mentoring from Staff Nurse II and III; and Patient Care Coordinator. It is expected that full-time staff will work a compilation of primarily 10hr shifts, interspersed with 8 and 12hr shifts, to total 80hrs per 2 weeks. The same expectation applies to 36 and 24hr employees, as applicable to their weekly expectation.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

BSN highly preferred, with minimum of one year experience required in a critical care or emergency room setting.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Current license from the Board of Nurse Examiners of the State of Texas to practice as a registered nurse is required. Must have current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider and ACLS Provider cards upon hire. PALS Provider card is required within 6 months of hire.
