Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Staff Modeling and Simulation Engineer in Milpitas, CA to lead advanced multi-physics simulations and drive predictive validation of complex hardware. You will work with cross-functional teams to translate simulation insights into concrete hardware improvements and mentor junior staff.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD with heavy focus on computational mechanics and multi-physics modeling.
• 10+ years of simulation and predictive analysis experience in complex R&D systems.
• Advanced hands-on expertise in ANSYS, COMSOL Multi-physics or equivalent high-end simulation platforms.
• Proven track record running coupled simulations (fluid-structure interaction, thermal-structural, chemical reaction modeling).
• Ability to correlate virtual models with physical test metrics (strain gauges, thermal imaging, flow sensors).
• Demonstrated leadership in guiding hardware design through analytical data.

Responsibilities

• Lead advanced FEA/CFD simulations for processing equipment.
• Develop and run highly coupled multi-physics simulations across structural, thermal, fluid, and chemical domains.
• Establish simulation data management workflows, mesh convergence criteria, and V&V protocols using experimental data.
• Provide analytical leadership during design reviews to validate margins and thermal/flow performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate simulation insights into hardware changes.
• Own modeling milestones, timelines, and resource planning; report to stakeholders.
• Mentor junior staff on modeling methodologies and verification practices.
