Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems LLC is seeking a Staff Modeling and Simulation Engineer to lead multi-physics simulation work for next-gen processing equipment in a fast-paced, collaborative team.

You will model complex interactions across thermal, structural, fluid, and chemical regimes, drive design decisions, and mentor junior engineers while delivering hardware-ready solutions with rigorous standards.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Mechanical, Aerospace, Physics or related field with computational mechanics focus
• 10+ years of experience in simulation and predictive analysis of complex R&D systems
• Advanced, hands-on expert in ANSYS, COMSOL Multiphysics or equivalent high-end FEA/CFD platforms
• Proven track record running coupled simulations (e.g., fluid-structure interaction, thermal-structural, chemical modeling)
• Ability to bridge virtual models with shop floor using physical test metrics like strain data, thermal imaging, flow sensors
• Leadership to influence hardware design through data and to lead cross-functional initiatives

Responsibilities

• Execute advanced FEA and CFD for processing equipment
• Run multi-physics analyses covering structural, thermal, fluid flow, and chemical kinetics
• Implement engineering workflows for simulation data management and V&V with test data
• Lead design reviews with focus on margins, thermal stress, and flow uniformity
• Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, and Chemical teams to translate insights into hardware changes
• Own modeling milestones, timelines, and resource planning
• Mentor junior staff on modeling methodologies and finite element principles
• Drive rapid problem solving from concept to prototype deployment
