Western Alliance Bank is seeking a Staff Engineer II to lead MuleSoft API development and governance across enterprise systems in a regulated financial environment.

The role emphasizes technical leadership, collaboration with Architecture, Information Security, Risk, and Delivery teams, and ongoing governance to ensure secure, reliable APIs and scalable solutions. On-site work in TX with travel up to 25% may be required.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of related experience in IT App Support, IT Development, IT Networking, or similar field.
• 3–5 years of MuleSoft Anypoint Platform experience including designing, developing, and supporting APIs and integrations.
• Experience in Financial Services API ecosystems and API programs including Governance, lifecycle management, enterprise API standards, and gateway policy enforcement.
• Experience with Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines, automated API quality checks, and API security scanning.
• Knowledge of Open Banking, OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS, and enterprise integration patterns.
• Experience partnering with Architecture, Information Security, Risk, and Development teams to ensure solutions align with enterprise standards, regulatory requirements, and technology roadmaps.

Responsibilities

• Lead API gateways and API management platforms such as MuleSoft API Manager including policy implementation, consumer onboarding, monitoring, and operational support.
• Establish and enforce engineering standards, governance controls, and architectural best practices across multiple application teams to ensure APIs are secure, compliant, reliable, and reusable.
• Lead the strategic planning of a project as it relates to technical solution design.
• Design and implement engineering principles aimed at reliability practices and sound recovery procedures.
• Design transaction specific application performance monitoring metrics that can be captured and passed to business partners.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system configurations and procedures while also ensuring compliance with IT policies, procedures, and industry standards.
