Job summary

Babylist is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to own personalization across the homepage feed, recommendations, and search. You will shape models, embeddings, and representations used by multiple surfaces, and decide on bets for the roadmap while staying in the codebase.

You will collaborate with product, design and data teams, coaching senior engineers and setting standards for AI-driven personalization. Remote-first across US/Canada with broad scope.

Qualifications

• Shipped production ML systems with ownership across the lifecycle (data collection to deployment).
• Experience with recommender or personalization systems at scale.
• Strong Python ML ecosystem experience (pandas, scikit-learn, XGBoost, PyTorch) and end-to-end ML workflow.
• Ability to define problem space, architect from scratch and own it end-to-end.

Responsibilities

• Own personalization as a domain: homepage feed, add-next, search personalization, and foundational representations used by multiple surfaces.
• Set direction for modeling and architecture across teams; produce production-ready models.
• Manage full lifecycle: orchestration, deployment, monitoring, retraining loop.
• Define standards for AI-enabled personalization; develop evals to catch errors before shipping.
• Collaborate with product, design and data as a peer; guide senior engineers through hard calls.
