Job summary

ICEYE is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of a next‑generation optical satellite platform. You will drive structural analysis, material decisions, and optimization while mentoring engineers and coordinating with suppliers through manufacturing, testing, and qualification.

You will work hands-on in CAD, applying first-principles thinking to solve complex space environment challenges, including outgassing, thermal cycling, and thermoelastic effects.

Qualifications

• Expert knowledge and hands-on skills in mechanical CAD design, analysis, and optimisation across all project phases.
• First-principles thinking to break complex problems into fundamentals for solutions.
• Guide material selection for space environment including outgassing, thermal cycling, thermoelastic effects.
• Strong testing knowledge, especially TVAC and vibration testing, and pre-launch qualification campaigns.
• Experience working with optical component manufacturers to ensure right selection and quality for system requirements.
• R&D mindset: owning problems, learning by doing, iterating on parts needing improvement.
• Experience delivering designs through suppliers from concept to production, with verification and validation.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical design, structural analysis, and optimization of satellite platform elements, from concept through manufacturing and testing.
• Guide material selection and analysis for space environment across components.
• Collaborate with manufacturers and subcontractors to ensure quality and performance, mentoring others on the team.
