Job summary

Mainspring Energy is hiring a Staff Mechanical Engineer to own a key portion of the ring service interval development for the Linear Generator. You will lead ring and piston design, run complex tests, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to balance thermal, structural, and materials challenges.

The role requires a master's degree (or PhD) in mechanical engineering with extensive experience in high‑performance parts and production release, plus solid CAD and FEA expertise.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or PhD with experience
• Experience designing high‑performance, precision parts from R&D to production release
• Fluency in SolidWorks; familiarity with FEA tools like Ansys
• Ability to create 2D manufacturing drawings with GD&T
• Strong understanding of structural mechanics and heat transfer; tribology or fluids a plus
• Systems-oriented problem solving across disciplines

Responsibilities

• Lead ring and piston development projects from requirements to production introduction
• Design complex moving parts for piston and ring systems end-to-end
• Root-cause analysis of failures involving thermal, structural, materials and fluids
• Design and run test campaigns on benchtop rigs and in-generator experiments
• Define requirements for related subsystems to improve performance
• Collaborate with a fast-paced engineering team to find optimal solutions
