Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Staff Materials Engineer for our Cathode Engineering team. This team combines expertise in Materials, Battery, Test, and Process engineering to design, understand, and validate iron positive electrodes.

In this role, you will collaborate with the Electrode Prototyping team to deepen understanding of process impacts on material properties and performance. Your experience with scaling processes like dry or wet mixing, calendaring, or lamination will drive our cathode to full-scale production. You will characterize, test, and develop specifications to guide large-scale decisions, working closely with Supply Chain, R&D, Manufacturing, and other teams. This is an opportunity to shape and contribute to a fast-growing company with breakthrough technology and a meaningful mission.

What You'll Do
  • Collaborate with Process & Equipment Engineering teams to support manufacturing scale-up and validate powder handling & mixing processes.
  • Set product & process specifications by analyzing complex data and making data-driven decisions.
  • Characterize electrode materials before and after testing, working with internal experts and external vendors, developing characterization techniques as needed.
  • Design, execute, and interpret electrochemical tests on large- and lab-scale test vehicles and field-deployed batteries.
  • Prioritize safety while creating material specifications linked to performance and electrochemical mechanisms.
  • Develop characterization methods for specifications that can be transferred into quality control metrics.
  • Mentor and support team members, with potential to formally manage as an individual contributor.
What You'll Bring
  • 7+ years of experience in electrochemically-focused materials engineering.
  • Degree in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Deep understanding of wet and dry mixing, calendaring, roll-to-roll processing, or extrusion processes.
  • Experience in building property-performance relationships for batteries or similar electrochemical systems, especially in deployed or market-ready products.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, capable of engaging at all organizational levels.
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and operations.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 20% of the time.

Form Energy values humanity and offers competitive salaries, stock options, and comprehensive benefits. We cover 100% of medical, dental, and vision premiums for full-time employees and 80% for dependents from day one. We provide at least 12 weeks of paid parental leave, with up to 20 weeks for birthing parents, and generous vacation policies.
