Job summary

Coinbase is pursuing a Staff Data Engineer for Market Data on the Institutional Markets team. You will architect, build, and own systems that generate real-time market data across Coinbase with low latency for a unified trading platform.

You will lead a lean, high-impact team, design low-latency components, and partner with engineers and product to deliver market data capabilities at scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience in production low-latency systems.
• Hands-on experience with market data systems (feed handlers, normalization, distribution).
• Proficiency in low-latency Java or C++ and high-throughput messaging tools.
• Familiarity with market data protocols (FIX, ITCH/OUCH, multicast).
• Track record delivering features end-to-end and strong ownership attitude.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate market data components: feed handlers, normalization, distribution, and venue connectivity.
• Design low-latency, high-throughput systems for real-time market data used by trading engines.
• Improve reliability and performance through observability and incident response.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code and lift quality on a lean team.
• Collaborate with engineers, product, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver market data capabilities.
