Job description

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.

This position is looking for a highly motivated HITL Engineer with an emphasis in developmental and operational test of Anduril’s suite of software enabled systems in our Connected Warfare division. You will work heavily with cross-functional engineering and program stakeholders to support and/or lead tiger teams focused on solving hard problems and changing the industry forever. You will also be responsible for helping to architect, physically build, test and train end users (Army Soldiers) on how to use the HITL being built in support of the Army’s Next Generation Command and Control capabilities. This role will be responsible for planning, coordination, execution and reporting on all facets of the test program - emphasis is on the EXECUTION portion of the role. We need a leader capable of being “hands on the keyboard”, capable of creating scripts, automating test procedures, while simultaneously leading less experienced test engineers. We expect this valued role to also manage the HITL (that you help build) for our team, for our customer, while addressing questions and solving technical problems as they surface during customer demonstrations or daily stress testing of the environment.

The Test and Evaluation team at Anduril works across the entire spectrum of products and business lines, as well as all flight operations and test range management. Our team conducts full system level development testing, new production acceptance testing, sub-component qualification testing and much more. In short, if it involves test, we support it. If you are interested in working in an extremely innovative and fast paced environment, where your work directly makes an impact and difference in the products that are fielded this a fantastic opportunity.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead automated software testing campaigns for Connected Warfare systems, including Lattice, the Army’s Next Generation Command and Control Systems, and the Menace Family of Systems, within an accelerated software development cycle.
  • Plan, develop and execute automated testing strategies and frameworks for Connected Warfare systems in alignment with operational requirements, environments, and realistic operational scenarios.
  • Work closely with program management, test leads, and other engineering department leads to develop requirements, communicate test campaign schedule and progress, establish test campaign gates and milestones, and discuss test results to include collected data and observations.
  • You will also be responsible for helping to architect, physically build, test and train end users (Army Soldiers) on how to use the HITL being built in support of the Army’s Next Generation Command and Control capabilities.
  • Conduct and/or oversee test data collection efforts and perform initial data analysis for the system under test.
  • Automate initial issue investigation and process improvement and development.
  • Analyze automated test results, track performance trends, and recommend automated enhancements.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to analyze test results, identify performance trends, and recommend enhancements or corrective actions.
  • Manage the use of software test environments and coordinate with external agencies to facilitate testing activities.
  • Support Connected Warfare product teams in understanding automated software test capabilities and limitations.
  • Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Ensure the safe operation and rigorous evaluation of all test efforts.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • 8+ years of experience executing Command & Control (C2) software and hardware systems testing, in both the laboratory and operational environments. This experience should include experience with RF communications, tactical datalinks, tactical radios, network capture and analysis, and operational data framework for at least one of the uniformed services.
  • Experience with developing requirements, test planning, test execution, and test reporting.
  • Experience integrating into and conducting test with various datalink architectures, networks, user interfaces, and hardware.
  • Experience with requirements-based verification and implementation of verification strategies with a strong emphasis on automated tests. Involvement with and management of Continuous Improvement Continuous Development (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Prior experience with Linux based systems and command line.
  • Prior experience with software code/script building using programming languages such as Go, Java, C++, Python, JavaScript, etc.
  • Prior experience with human-readable data serialization languages such as YAML.
  • Must have a complete understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment.
  • Familiarity with government software testing protocols and regulations and able to guide programmatic development pathways to proactively accommodate their requirements.
  • Must have strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. Will attend technical reviews and be required to articulate detailed plans to an audience of interdisciplinary members of both Anduril and customer teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Bias for action – if you see a problem, you want to solve and fix it.
  • Able to periodically work irregular and extended hours.
  • Ability to travel as required for test planning and execution in remote and austere locations as required, periodically up to 50% time.
  • Ability to immediately obtain a U.S. Secret-Level security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with the Department of Defense (DoD)
  • Knowledge of hardware testing techniques, test equipment, and analysis of collected data.
  • Previous experience with and/or current working knowledge of MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-705, MIL-STD-1553/1773, MIL-STD-1760, AS5653, etc.
  • Experience in planning and executing EMI/EMC test plans/procedures in compliance with industry standards like MIL-STD, DO-160, or IEC, with understanding of EMI/EMC test equipment.
  • Experience with automated testing tools like Netropy, iperf, tc, Netdata, and NATS.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
