Job summary

Atoms seeks a Staff Systems Integration Engineer to own hardware-in-the-loop benches validating the autonomy stack off-vehicle. You’ll architect and build the bench, automate it, and produce strong documentation for software and autonomy teams.

You’ll design full benches, simulate vehicle systems, replay sensor data, and support CI-driven testing. A deep hands-on role with strong wiring, CAN, Ethernet, and ROS expertise is essential to success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 8+ years of experience, or a master's with 6+ years.
• Demonstrated experience designing and building hardware-in-the-loop or system-level test benches from architecture through commissioning.
• Hands-on experience with vehicle networks (CAN, CAN FD, Automotive Ethernet) and schematics.
• Real-time plant, actuator, sensor, and power model development and deployment.
• Proficiency in Python and a systems language (C/C++), plus test automation in CI pipelines.
• Experience with robotics middleware and logging/replay tools (e.g., ROS, rosbag).
• Strong documentation skills for bench topology, tests, and failure analysis.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and construction of system benches, including topology, electrical architecture, schematic capture, sourcing, harness design, build, and commissioning.
• Simulate vehicle systems not physically present to allow autonomy compute to run against a complete simulated vehicle.
• Implement sensor data replay that is time-synchronized and scalable from open-loop to closed-loop replay.
• Design and maintain automated test frameworks for bench execution, CI gate software, and results reporting.
• Define and execute fault injection, degraded-mode, redundant paths, and loss-of-communication scenarios.
• Own build-vs-buy decisions for bench hardware/software and manage suppliers.
• Provide cross-functional support to autonomy, embedded, hardware, and vehicle teams; lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Establish automotive-grade conventions for bench documentation and lead design reviews.
