Job summary

CARIAD is seeking a Staff Engineer, Hardware Design, System Integration & Test Automation in Mountain View. You will bridge detailed embedded hardware design with system-level bring-up, validation, and scalable automation, guiding cross-domain issues and defining robust integration strategies.

The role emphasizes hands-on ownership of board and ECU bring-up, system-level interfaces, and the development of repeatable, AI-enabled lab workflows when appropriate.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related; extensive embedded hardware experience.
• 8+ years in embedded hardware or ECU design and system integration.
• Experience bringing up boards/ECUs and cross-domain debugging.
• Experience with HIL benches, lab automation, and instrumentation.
• Familiarity with design-for-test and validation.
• Strong communication and leadership in multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead hardware-to-system bring-up across prototypes and revisions.
• Review schematics, power architecture, interfaces, and design-for-test provisions.
• Define scalable bench architectures and HIL configurations for validation.
• Drive cross-domain issue triage, integration planning, and evidence-based decisions.
• Mentor engineers in structured problem solving and lab practices.
