Job summary

Strava is seeking a Staff AI Engineer to join the GenAI + Discovery Platform team. You will own the systems enabling product teams to ship AI-powered features at scale, from shared context and tool management to ROI frameworks.

This role blends AI engineering, platform engineering, and server engineering in a hybrid setup with on-site days in San Francisco. You’ll work with engineers, PMs, and data teams to translate AI capabilities into production-ready platforms, leveraging Strava’s vast

Qualifications

• 5+ years building and operating complex, production AI or backend systems at scale.
• Experience building AI platform tooling or developer-facing infrastructure for LLM/ML systems.
• Hands-on experience building with large language models in production (agentic workflows, RAG, embeddings).
• Proficiency in search systems (Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, Vector Search).
• Proficiency in backend service development on cloud environments (AWS preferred), using Python, Go.

Responsibilities

• Build for a Well Loved Consumer Product at the intersection of AI and fitness.
• Build the GenAI + Discovery Platform: LLM, workflow orchestration, prompt management, RAG pipelines, search and retrieval services, evaluation tooling.
• Enable Teams to Ship AI Features Faster with self-serve interfaces and golden paths.
• Own End-to-End AI Capability Delivery from architecture to production deployment and monitoring.
• Collaborate Across Engineering and Product to align AI capabilities with product roadmap.
• Build from a Rich Dataset leveraging Strava's fitness and geo data for insights.
