Job summary

Alpaca is hiring a Staff Full Stack Engineer to lead the technical direction of the Trading API product. You will own the architecture for customer access, authentication, and permissions, and drive next-gen applications with real-time market data, order entry, and positions views.

You will guide the migration from legacy endpoints to a back-end service ecosystem on Kubernetes, enforcing strong security, observability, and scalable design across teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with backend and customer-facing apps.
• Experience with authentication/authorization: OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, MFA and token management.
• Strong backend in Go; willingness to work primarily in Go; frontend in TypeScript/React.
• Knowledge of relational DBs (PostgreSQL) and API design (REST/gRPC).

Responsibilities

• Own architecture and technical roadmap for Trading API access and customer apps.
• Lead delivery of real-time data, order entry, and positions views.
• Move from monolith to dedicated backend with clear API contracts.
• Set security standards for sessions, MFA, OAuth, rate limiting, and input validation.
• Mentor engineers and partner with product, design, and security teams.
