Job summary

Alpaca is seeking a Staff Full Stack Engineer to lead the technical direction of the team that builds Alpaca's Trading API product. The role covers identity, authorization, account models, and trading features across the stack.

You will architect customer-facing applications, own security and data integrity, and collaborate with Product, Design, Compliance, Security, and Platform teams to deliver trusted trading experiences.

Qualifications

8+ years of software engineering experience with ownership of production systems.
Experience with authentication and authorization (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect).
Backend expertise in Go; strong frontend with TypeScript and React.
Relational databases (PostgreSQL) and API design (REST/gRPC) on Kubernetes.
Strong communication and technical leadership.

Responsibilities

Own the architecture and technical roadmap for Trading API access and identity systems.
Design and enforce account structures, permissions, and delegated access.
Lead the delivery of customer-facing trading features across API, UI, and data streams.
Move from legacy endpoints to a dedicated backend with clear API contracts.
Set security and observability standards for production systems.
Mentor engineers and lead design reviews with cross-functional partners.
Escalation point for production issues and durable prevention.
