Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Staff+ full-stack engineer to shape purchasing experiences and monetization across OpenAI products. You’ll work on web experiences, product APIs, and shared components to improve checkout, pricing models, and offers.

This hands-on technical leadership role involves architecture ownership, mentoring, and delivering across teams from exploration to launch. The role is based in San Francisco with three days per week in the office.

Qualifications

• Staff-level or higher with ownership of architecture and large initiatives across teams.
• Experience building sophisticated web apps and backend APIs.
• Proven track record delivering customer-facing products from concept to production.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build purchasing experiences end to end, from frontend interactions through APIs and backend integrations.
• Improve checkout performance, reliability, and conversion through experiments and analytics.
• Develop reusable checkout components and monetization capabilities for new products and pricing models.
• Partner with product, design, growth, and data science to identify opportunities, define experiments, and evaluate results.
• Lead initiatives from exploration through rollout and ongoing operation.
• Shape frontend and product API architecture for maintainability and reuse across products.
• Collaborate with engineering and business teams to translate complex requirements into simple experiences.
• Provide technical leadership through hands-on development, reviews, and mentoring.
