Job summary

OpenAI is seeking Staff+ full-stack engineers to shape purchasing experiences and monetization across OpenAI products. You’ll work across web experiences, product APIs, and shared components, turning ambiguous goals into concrete technical plans and leading initiatives from exploration through launch.

This hands-on technical leadership role requires ownership over architecture, implementation, and product outcomes, with three days per week in the San Francisco office.

Qualifications

• Experience owning architecture and delivering major initiatives across teams.
• Strong background building sophisticated web applications and backend APIs.
• Proven track record taking customer-facing products from idea to production.
• Understand how frontend performance and API design affect user experience and business outcomes.
• Balance shipping speed with reusable, durable systems.
• Effective communication across functions to move work forward without a rigid roadmap.
• Mentor other engineers and promote broader ownership.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build purchasing experiences end to end across frontend, APIs, and backend integrations.
• Improve checkout conversion, performance, and reliability through experimentation and analytics.
• Develop shared checkout components and monetization capabilities supporting new products and pricing models.
• Partner with Product, Design, Growth, and Data Science to identify opportunities and evaluate results.
• Lead initiatives from exploration through implementation, rollout, and operation.
• Shape frontend and product API architecture for maintainability and reuse across products.
• Turn complex requirements into simple, effective customer experiences.
• Provide technical leadership through hands-on development, design reviews, and mentorship.
