Job summary

Capital One seeks a Staff Engineer to lead scale architecture and platform modernization for our cloud-enabled communications stack. You will steer cross-functional teams of engineers, ML experts, and product managers to deliver resilient, compliant delivery pipelines.

You will own governance, drive innovation in messaging and data observability, and mentor senior engineers while ensuring security and regulatory adherence across multiple channels.

Qualifications

• At least 7 years of software engineering and solution architecture.
• At least 7 years of Enterprise architecture and design patterns.
• At least 2 years of deploying and delivering platforms within cloud environments.
• At least 1 year of hands-on experience with LLM systems, including RAG or embeddings, prompt or plan tooling, and model governance.

Responsibilities

• Architect end-to-end delivery architecture across all properties (site, emails, SMS, push notifications, messages) enabled by AI with high resilience.
• Governance & Compliance Stewardship: ensure all communications adhere to enterprise compliance and risk frameworks, with cyber-security perspective.
• Drive consolidation of messaging systems into an Enterprise Message Delivery platform, migrating from legacy systems.
• Build automations across workflows to avoid migrations and establish engineering standards.
• Drive vendor strategy for build vs. buy decisions.
• Cross-Functional Leadership & Mentorship for dispatch domain teams and engineers.
• Stay current with industry trends and bring best practices to drive innovation.
• Data Product Competency & Observability: design telemetry/analytics pipelines for real-time observability and data-driven optimization.
