Job summary

BackerKit is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead frontend craftsmanship on our Ruby on Rails monolith, reporting to the Director of Engineering, Product, and Design. You’ll spend most of your time in code, mentoring, and shaping UI patterns that serve creators and backers across our platform.

As a remote-first team of ~40, you’ll influence architecture, improve usability, and own end-to-end features, from design intent to production.

Qualifications

• Deep experience building high-quality user interfaces and recent hands-on coding.
• Strong fundamentals in HTML, CSS, JS, and browser behavior.
• Comfort working directly in Rails views, helpers, and partials.
• Experience with or strong interest in Hotwire / Turbo / Stimulus.

Responsibilities

• Build alongside engineers, PMs, and designers in pairs, trios and solo.
• Lead frontend architecture, evolving patterns incrementally.
• Co-own features end to end, translating product and design intent into UI.
• Simplify complex workflows and improve usability, responsiveness, and performance.
• Mentor engineers and set the bar for code quality through review.
• Report to Director and advise on priorities and technical direction.
