NewtonX is seeking a Staff Frontend Engineer with deep React and TypeScript expertise. You will own the frontend architecture behind data-dense applications used by clients and research teams, focusing on performance, accessibility, and interaction quality.

Qualifications

• 6+ years engineering experience, frontend-focused, including 3+ years leading end-to-end projects.
• Expert React with hooks, composition patterns, and rendering mindset.
• Strong TypeScript typing that catches real bugs.
• Proficient HTML, CSS/SCSS, and modern layout techniques.
• Experience owning frontend architecture, shared libraries, and state management.
• Performance focus: Core Web Vitals, bundling, code-splitting.
• Accessibility expertise: WCAG 2.1 AA, keyboard/ARIA.
• Design system collaboration with Design.
• Testing depth: Jest, RTL, Playwright or Cypress.
• REST/GraphQL data fetching, caching (React Query, SWR, Apollo).
• Reading Python/Django backend code and collaborating with backend engineers.
• Ability to mentor and raise the bar.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture of React/TypeScript apps.
• Lead development of performant, accessible UIs for analytics workflows.
• Set and defend frontend standards in CI.
• Develop and evolve shared component library and design system with Design.
• Drive measurable performance improvements and profiling.
• Collaborate with backend engineers on API contracts.
• Reduce frontend tech debt and contribute to Python/Django services.
• Mentor engineers and lead department-wide technical initiatives.
