Job summary

Ursa Major is seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer to lead the design and verification of embedded hardware for flight-critical systems. You will architect CCAs and FPGA-based hardware interfacing with sensors, power systems, and high-speed buses, delivering robust avionics for propulsion and guidance applications.

Required expertise includes mixed-signal design, FPGA development, and hardware verification in harsh environments.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering and 10+ years of direct experience in electronics hardware and ASIC/FPGA development.
• Experience delivering flight avionics for aerospace systems or space applications.
• Understanding of analog/digital filtering and mixed-signal circuit design and test.
• Knowledge of signal integrity, power distribution, grounding, and board layout principles.
• Familiarity with EMI/EMC practices and MIL-461, DO-160, or FCC compliance.
• Proficiency in HDL languages (VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog) and FPGA timing closure.
• Experience with Python, TCL, or similar for FPGA simulations and hardware test.

Responsibilities

• Develop mixed-signal designs through full product life-cycle from requirements to production release.
• Support avionics architecture trade studies, analyses and hardware tests.
• Perform de-rating analysis, worst-case circuit analysis and system reliability analyses.
• Define hardware interfaces to software for control laws and automated tests.
• Lead ASIC/FPGA RTL design, test generation and verification.
• Oversee FPGA synthesis, place-and-route, and timing margin (STA).
• Prepare materials for peer reviews and major design reviews.
• Support rocket engine testing and ground support as needed.
