Haley & Aldrich is seeking a Staff Environmental Engineer, Environmental Scientist, or Geologist 1 for our Annapolis, MD office. The role is full-time and based on-site, with responsibilities across field investigations, site characterization, data evaluation, and reporting.

Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in environmental fields and 0–2 years' related experience, with strong writing, communication, and MS Office skills. Willingness to travel and lift 50 lbs is required.

  • Familiar with environmental analytical testing and data reduction techniques for soil, water, and air.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and aptitude to work with sampling equipment in the field.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the position: lift 50 lbs., traverse unstable/sloping sites; work outside in various weather; moderate physical activity.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field investigations and assessments of soil, groundwater, surface water, etc. using industry standard procedures.
  • Use results of field investigations to support site characterization.
  • Conduct basic construction observation, including quality control documentation and field testing tasks.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate documentation of activities in the field and during data evaluation.
  • Apply academic training and use computer software to perform calculations and evaluation of information.
  • Draft technical sections of project communications and reports.
  • Assist with development of technical scopes of work and cost estimating for proposals on small- to medium-sized projects.
  • Assist with collection, documentation, and organization of field data per project plans.
  • Perform work in accordance with health and safety protocols.
  • Demonstrate the company’s foundational safety behaviors.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct field investigations and assessments of soil, groundwater, surface water, etc. using approved industry standard procedures.
  • Use the results of field investigations such as subsurface explorations, monitoring well construction, field sampling and other work to support site characterization.
  • Conduct basic construction observation, including quality control documentation and field testing tasks.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and detailed documentation of activities both in the field and during data evaluation.
  • Apply academic training and use computer software to perform calculations and evaluation of information.
  • Draft technical sections of project communications and reports.
  • Assist with the development of technical scopes of work and cost estimating for proposal efforts on small- to medium-sized project opportunities.
  • Assist with the collection, documentation, and organization of field data in accordance with project specific plans.
  • Perform all work in accordance with company and client health and safety protocols.
  • Demonstrate the company’s foundational safety behaviors.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology or related field.
  • 0 to 2 years of related experience.
  • Proficient technical writing, verbal communication, reasoning, and time management skills.
  • Able to work independently or with minimal direction in performing tasksand assignments under the direction of senior staff.
  • Desire to learn and grow in their profession, demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic, resourcefulness, flexibility, and ownership.
  • Familiar with environmental analytical testing and data reduction techniques for soil, water, and air.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and aptitude to work with sampling equipment in the field.

  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the position: lift 50 lbs., traverse unstable/sloping sites and landscapes, work outside in a range of weather conditions, and have the stamina for moderate physical activity for the majority of field working hours.
  • May require travel to out-of-state project sites for extended periods (i.e. > 2 weeks).
Preferred Skills:
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training.

The salary range for this position inAnnapolis, MD is $58,000 - $78,000 annually. Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions. Haley & Aldrich reviews salary ranges each quarter to assess competitiveness with the market.
