Job summary

Generac is seeking a Staff Engineer-Transfer Switch to drive design from concept to mass production. You will collaborate with engineering, operations, sourcing, quality, service, and marketing to deliver robust transfer switch products.

The role demands a BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and at least 7 years of related experience, with strong mechanism design, CAD skills, and experience in new product development and manufacturing support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• 7+ years of relevant work experience.
• Ability to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy on multiple projects of increasing complexity.
• Proven experience in mechanism design including gear train, over-center toggle, linear actuator, multi-bar linkage, cam design.
• Design experience with mechanical & electrical components (springs, solenoids, motors) and material specs.
• Experience in new product design & development and manufacturing production support.
• Ability to conduct analysis using hand calculations, FEA, CFD, etc.
• Strong written communication and presentation skills.
• Strong time management and analytical problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Designs, validates, and brings new transfer switch products to market.
• Supports transfer switch products from concept through mass production.
• Specifies precise new product functional requirements; designs and tests components; evaluates design effectiveness, cost, reliability and safety.
• Designs and evaluates fitness-for-use testing and validation plans; creates material specifications and BOMs.
• Collaborates with manufacturing partners and suppliers to optimize designs for manufacturability.
• Uses CAD/CAE systems to model designs and produce engineering drawings.
• Supports product development plans, schedules, costs, and inputs.
• Mentors less experienced engineers and leads small cross-functional projects.
