Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Staff Engineer for the Storage Layer Services team. You will drive architecture and implementation of high-availability, multi-tenant storage features, collaborating with Sydney and North America teams.

You will write production-ready Rust, lead cross-team initiatives, mentor engineers, and balance performance with reliability while guiding long-term tech strategy.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in programming, debugging, and performance tuning highly concurrent and/or distributed systems.
• Effective technical leader with customer-first mindset and cross-team collaboration.
• Strong grasp of cache management, log-based recovery, transactions or profiling.
• Comfortable reasoning about highly concurrent, asynchronous services and failure modes.
• Experience with databases, cloud storage services, or high-performance systems.
• Excellent written and verbal technical communication; mentoring others.
• Eager to learn new areas in computer science and software engineering.

Responsibilities

• Deliver on 6-18 month goals for Storage Layer Services.
• Define roadmap for the next 12 months.
• Write production-ready Rust code and drive code quality.
• Improve processes and tooling to reduce high-risk changes.
• Use observability to measure impact of work.
