Job summary

American Bible Society is seeking a Staff Engineer to guide the technical architecture, implementation, and delivery of diverse digital products, including scripture platforms and web/mobile apps. This individual-contributor role combines hands-on coding with architectural leadership and vendor oversight.

You will work with stakeholders, product managers, and engineering partners to ensure scalable, secure, and high-quality solutions, mentoring junior engineers and promoting DevOps best

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS or related field; equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of full-stack software engineering with leadership on cross-functional projects.
• Experience leading architecture across multiple products/platforms.

Responsibilities

• Lead system architecture design across multiple products and platforms.
• Define and communicate a shared technical vision that aligns with ABS’s long‑term strategy.
• Make key decisions on frameworks, services, and technical approaches to reduce complexity and promote reuse.
• Write and review code as needed, with development responsibilities ranging from minimal coding to high‑impact components.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level developers and oversee vendor relationships.
