Position Summary

GEICO is seeking a highly skilled Staff Full Stack Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms and applications. The focus will be on optimizing and resolving performance issues in our commercial insurance tech platforms. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, fostering a culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.

Position Description

Our Staff Software Engineer collaborates with Senior Staff and Senior Engineers to innovate, build new systems, improve existing systems, and identify new opportunities. You will lead the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap to increase product delivery velocity and unlock new engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate will have deep understanding of front-end and back-end technologies, taking a hands-on approach to improve system performance, scalability, and reliability. Collaboration with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement solutions that meet growing business demands is essential.

Position Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize high-performance, scalable web applications.
• Lead the resolution of critical performance bottlenecks across the full stack, ensuring seamless integration with backend services and cloud/on-prem infrastructure.
• Perform root cause analysis of performance issues and implement monitoring, profiling, and optimization strategies.
• Lead efforts to implement microservices architecture and integrate with cloud technologies such as AWS or Azure.
• Develop and drive the tech strategy for the Commercial Insurance organization, aligning it with business goals.
• Provide thought leadership in application performance and stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies.
• Design and architect resilient and scalable systems, considering both on-premises and cloud solutions.
• Collaborate with teams to incorporate performance best practices into development and deployment.
• Advocate for software engineering and SDLC best practices, including technical reviews, architecture, testing, and production readiness.
• Mentor and coach team members, influencing and educating executives and engineering staff.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in full-stack development, focusing on performance optimization.
• Proficiency in Java, C#, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, with frameworks like React and Angular.
• Strong knowledge of microservices, RESTful APIs, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Solid experience in database design (SQL and NoSQL) and optimization.
• Familiarity with performance monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
• Understanding of networking, caches, load balancing, queues, DNS, and CDN.
• Experience with automation tools and frameworks (Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Pulumi, Terraform).
• Knowledge of cloud security and compliance standards.
• Leadership skills with a passion for mentoring and growth.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical skills, and attention to detail.

Salary Range

$115,000 - $230,000 annually. Final compensation depends on various factors including experience, education, location, and market considerations.
