Job summary

Rippling is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for the Payments team in New York. You will shape the unified processing core for payroll money movement, guiding architecture for payment instruction generation, employer funding, payout initiation, and observability at global scale.

You will lead end-to-end delivery and collaborate with Product, Risk, Accounting, Tax, Payroll, Ops, and Support to turn payment-state challenges into durable platform capabilities and intuitive user experiences.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with leadership.
• Expertise in building large-scale distributed backend systems; Python and Django highly preferred.
• Experience delivering end-to-end features independently.
• Deep expertise in system architecture, data modeling, and building core services with clean abstractions.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical architecture for the next generation of payroll payments engine across countries.
• Own end-to-end delivery of high-impact, complex features from design to production deployment.
• Drive roadmaps for the Payroll processing team, tackle performance bottlenecks and reliability improvements.
• Turn ambiguous technical challenges into concrete, actionable plans for the team.
• Exercise expert technical judgment in building scalable and maintainable systems with data integrity.
• Mentor senior and junior engineers, lead design reviews, promote code quality and observability.
