Job summary

Rippling is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for Payroll Data in New York. You will design and build high-scale data infrastructure powering payroll reports, tax filings, and AI-driven experiences.

Own end-to-end data pipelines, unified data access layers, and a robust query layer, collaborating with Product, Platform, AI, and payroll teams to deliver reliable, observable systems at scale.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong data infrastructure background with pipelines or large-scale platforms.
• Expertise in distributed systems and tradeoffs between batch and real-time processing.
• Proficiency in a modern backend language (Go/Java/Python).
• Experience with transactional and analytical data stores and schema optimization.
• Platform mindset with reusable abstractions for multiple teams.
• Operational rigor for observability, reliability, and production readiness.
• Strong communication and ownership with autonomous leadership.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build scalable data infrastructure and pipelines for payroll data.
• Define a unified data query layer spanning batch and real-time processing.
• Own end-to-end data pipelines, schemas, backfills, and lifecycle mgmt.
• Lead on non-functional aspects: observability, monitoring, alerting, data quality.
• Solve interoperability challenges across core systems for long-term extensibility.
• Provide technical leadership, review designs, and mentor engineers.
• Collaborate with Product, Platform, AI, and Payroll teams to deliver robust platform capabilities.
