Job summary

UES in Phoenix, AZ, seeks a Staff Engineer to plan, design, and direct geotechnical testing projects, including predevelopment and civil design support. You will work in the field and office to ensure technical quality and safety on projects across transportation, energy, and water sectors.

Ideal candidates hold an EIT, are eligible for P.E., and have a BS in civil/geotechnical/environmental engineering with 1–2 years of related experience.

Qualifications

• EIT certification required.
• Ability to earn P.E. (Professional Engineer).
• B.S. in civil, geotechnical, or environmental engineering from a four‑year college or university; 1–2 years of related experience and/or training.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting findings and working with project teams.
• Basic understanding of construction methods, site safety, and environmental regulations is helpful.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Willingness to work in both field and office environments and travel to project sites as needed.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and demonstrate a proactive, collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities

• Calculates cost and feasibility of projects based on data analysis.
• Analyzes soil, terrain, hydrological data to plan and design projects.
• Prepares or directs preparation of reports, specifications, plans, testing schedules and designs.
• Inspects construction sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to plans and safety standards.
• Uses computer aided engineering and design software to prepare documents.
• Directs various activities at project sites as needed.
