Job summary

Intertek is seeking a Geotechnical Staff Engineer for our Professional Services Industries team in Columbus, OH. The role involves field logging, soil testing, and geotechnical report writing to support diverse civil construction projects.

We value strong communication, plan-reading skills, and the ability to work on multiple projects with safety as a priority. Travel up to 10% and overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil and/or Geotechnical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required.
• Recent graduates will be considered.
• Ability to obtain EIT/FE certification within 6 months of hire is required.
• Experience with geotechnical software (GeoStudio, APILE, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, SLIDE, Settle3, MSEW) is preferred.

What you’ll do:

• Perform a variety of geotechnical assignments including field logging and soil laboratory assignments.
• Perform geotechnical report writing.
• Review project plans and specifications prepared by others.
• Attend client site meetings.
• Communicate effectively with client and project teams.
• Work on multiple projects at a time.
• May perform on-site observations, sample collection, and specific tests.
• May work both in the field and laboratory regularly.
• Must be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil and/or Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited/ABET school is required
• Recent Graduates will be considered
• Ability to obtain EIT/FE certification within 6 months of hire isrequired
• Knowledge and experience in engineering software (GeoStudio, APILE, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, SLIDE, Settle3 and MSEW) are preferred
• Effective communication skills (written, verbal and listening) and solid interpersonal skills are required
• The ability to read and understand work plans is required
• Must be able to work off shift and overtime as needed
• May travel up to 10% of time
• Valid Driver's License and reliable driving recordrequired
• Ability to lift, move, push, and pull 30 to 50 pounds occasionally. Additional requirements may be needed for specific sites/locations.
• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound.
• Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
• Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
• Ability to climb occasionally

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1+ years of geotechnical engineering or construction materials testing experience - WE WILL TRAIN
• EIT/FE certification
